Most urinary stones (also known as urolithiasis) form due to changes in the natural balance of minerals and water in the urine.

The stones consist of salts and minerals that crystallize and bind together, forming deposits. If large enough, they can get trapped in the urinary tract and cause problems.

We have the best tools to find and eliminate stones. Our most advanced treatments have incredible precision, resulting in better stone removal.

We know that kidney stones are painful, which is why we offer quick and safe solutions.

Common symptoms caused by stones:

- Severe pain in the sides and lower back, which can sometimes radiate to the lower abdomen and groin area. Usually starts suddenly and comes in waves, known as colic pain.

- Dull pain. Some patients with stones may experience low-intensity pain in the lower back that comes and goes over time.

- Pain or spasms when urinating. Stones formed in the bladder often cause pain or spasms when urinating.

- Pink, red, or brown urine. It's common for stones to cause bleeding in the urine; depending on the intensity of the bleeding, the urine can be stained pink, red, or brown.

- Cloudy or foul-smelling urine. Stones often lead to urinary tract infections, which can result in cloudy or bad-smelling urine.

Causes of Stone Formation

The most common cause of urinary stones is an imbalance in the composition of the urine. This can be due to:

  • Insufficient fluid intake
  • A diet high in protein (or sodium)
  • Not enough citrate production (genetic)
  • Existing conditions like metabolic syndrome, obesity, diabetes, and gout.
  • A regulatory disorder of the parathyroid glands

Advanced Treatment

ureteroscopia-laser

Laser Ureteroscopy

An endoscopic technique, meaning no wounds or incisions are made, allows access to the urinary tract where the stone is lodged using equipment with a miniature camera. Once the stone is located, a laser is used to fragment or pulverize it. This technique is performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you won't need to be hospitalized.

Laser ureteroscopy is a technique that relies on the most advanced technology to achieve incredible results, safely and with little discomfort for the patient.

NLPC

NLPC

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy is the gold standard for solving problems of very large kidney stones or those occupying the entire kidney.

This technique achieves access to the kidney through the back. Using a special needle, a tract is made to allow an endoscope into the kidney, where the stone is located, to then fragment and extract the fragments.
